Which St Louis Tv Station Will Show the Blues Parade
Update, 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 14: This story has been updated with additional details about the parade and rally, where to park, security, and the MetroLink stops.
On Wednesday night, the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup for the first time in the franchise's history, beating the Boston Bruins on the road at the team's TD Garden in Game 7 of the Final.
The team was away, but you'd never know it by the looks of the celebration in Downtown St. Louis following the win. Three blowout watch parties at the Enterprise Center, Busch Stadium, and Ballpark Village emptied into the streets, with streams of fans chanting "We got the Cup," playing the Blues' victory song "Gloria," and high-fiving.
But it's sure to pale in comparison to the parade celebrating the team's win, which will take place Saturday afternoon starting at noon.
Where will the Blues Championship Parade & Rally start?
On Thursday morning, the St. Louis Blues' Twitter account tweeted that the 2019 Blues Championship Parade & Rally will snake along Market Street downtown, beginning at 18th and Market and ending at Broadway and Market. There's also a rally taking place after at the Gateway Arch. The forecast for Saturday is less than ideal with thunderstorms predicted, but as fans who sat in the pouring rain at Busch Stadium last night proved, the weather doesn't stop St. Louisans from showing up. (Also, there is no alternative plan should it rain Saturday.)
Who will be in the parade?
Blues Chief Revenue Officer Steve Chapman says the parade and rally will be "a celebration for our fans and to our fans." Parade-goers can expect to see a mix of cars, floats, and even some antique firetrucks carrying the players, coaches, alumni, and owners, as well as other faces special to the Blues organization. Yes, Laila Anderson will be there, and so will the Stanley Cup. Fans can buy "Stanley Cup Champions" merchandise along the parade route, as well as at the Enterprise Center team store.
What will be included in the rally?
Following the parade, a rally at the Gateway Arch lasting about an hour will commemorate the achievement. At least six TVs will be showing special video content, and the players and coaches will again be featured. There will be three security checkpoints going into the rally, two in Luther Ely Smith Square and one on the north side of the park.
Cash-only concession stands inside the Arch will serve soda, water, and beer. Soft-sided coolers with sealed, non-alcoholic drinks are allowed inside (no glass bottles).
Are the parade and rally free to attend?
Yes.
How many people are predicted to show up to the parade?
Although city officials don't have an exact number estimate, organizers say they are planning for one of the largest turnouts in the city's history. Captain Renee Kriesmann with the St. Louis Police Department says they have maximized their own staff, and are also partnering with St. Louis County and Missouri Highway Patrol officers for the event.
How early should I leave for the parade?
Met Transit's Executive Director Jessica Mefford-Miller recommends people give themselves at least an hour to get downtown, and to be especially patient leaving downtown after the event. Parade-goers are encouraged to get off the Metro at Busch Stadium, 8th and Pine, or Laclede's Landing stations.
Kriesmann's advice to parade-goers? Plan ahead, and then make a plan B. Market Street will closed at around 10 a.m., after which the main thoroughfare will be Jefferson. Around 11 a.m., the eastbound Interstate 44/northbound Interstate 55 to Walnut Street and westbound Poplar Street Bridge to eastbound I-44 and Walnut Street ramps will both close.
How long will I have to wait for the MetroLink?
Mefford-Miller says that trains will be running at least every 12 minutes. Extra employees and security will be stationed across the Metro to help riders find their routes. To avoid the ticket machines, you can get a Stanley Cup round-trip ticket on the Metro's mobile app.
Metro users who need to park are advised to do so at one of the following stations: On the Missouri side: North Hanley, UMSL South, and Delmar Loop stations on the red line and Shrewsberry I-44 or Brentwood I-64 on the blue line. On the Illinois side: Shiloh-Scott/Belleville, Emerson Park, 5th & Missouri, and East Riverfront.
Where will Lyft and Uber drop off during the parade?
Those using ride shares such as Uber or Lyft should request to be dropped off at 14th and Olive or 20th and Market for the parade, and 8th and Clark for the rally. Lyft is offering 50 percent off (up to $5) to riders traveling to and from MetroLink stations (not including the six stations located downtown) using the code "WEGOTTHECUP."
Where can I watch the parade on TV?
Channel 5 news will start live coverage of the event at 11:30 a.m. You can stream it here.
Are there any kid-friendly alternatives to going to the parade?
If you're looking for a family-friendly way to enjoy the parade but avoid the scrum, the Missouri History Museum is hosting a watch party. The museum will post a live feed of the downtown parade and kids can enjoy face-painting, balloons, and other children's activities. The fun starts at 11:30 a.m.
